Triplanar Setup - Denon DL-103/DL-103R
Treat all of these settings as a good starting point.
Tracking force. We have found 2.50 to 2.60 grams to work nicely with both the DL-103 and DL-103R.
When you deviate from this range, listen for any changes in apparent pacing of the music.
Counterweight selection and position. Other combinations can work with this cartridge. The position and selection shown
has given us good results.
VTA setting. The setting shown will result in the arm tube being parallel to the record surface - a good starting
point for both the DL-103 and DL-103R.
Anti-SkateSkating force is related to tracking force and the stylus' friction in the groove. The ideal anti-skating
force required to counteract it will therefore vary as you change the tracking force. Start with the weight in the middle
of the beam and adjust as necessary by ear. If you make adjustments to azimuth, re-visit this adjusment, as they are
somewhat interactive.
Azimuth. See our comments in the Triplanar Setup Tips page.
Counterweight selection and position - use only the heavy weight positioned far out on the arm stub to increase
the effective mass
VTA Tower - start with a reading on the tower of a bit greater than 4
Cartridge screws - just a bit forward of the center of the slots.
