The Gavia Name:
Galibiers are made in the U.S.A. but we worship the great traditions of European Bicycling and Alpine Climbing. In honor of
these traditions, we christened this turntable after the famous mountain pass in the Dolomite mountain range in Italy.
We're very proud of this turntable, and chose the Gavia name in honor of an historic ride in the 1988 Giro d'Italia (Italy's
equivalent of the Tour de France) - a ride by Andy Hampsten which is considered to be one of the 10 best efforts in European
bicycle stage racing.
Triumphs of will over adversity are inspirational to us, but the comparison goes deeper. Andy was known to be not only a
multi-dimensional rider but a complete individual. We like to think of what we do here at Galibier as embodying a unified
and balanced approach toward making music come alive in your listening room.
Long-term listening satisfaction comes only when your equipment is dedicated to the entirety of the reproduction - not
sacrificing one aspect of reproduction in order to impress someone in the audition room.
If you're interested in reading the account of this super-human effort, link to the story of Andy's ride by
