Artemis Labs

We are proud to offer Artemis Labs Electronics for your consideration. These designs come from the fertile mind of John Atwood, technical editor of Vacuum Tube Valley.

We'll have much more to say about these fine products in the coming months, but for now we've provided you with some basic information on these pages. There is an inherent "rightness" about these designs which bridge beyond the typical stereotypes of vacuum tube vs. solid state.

Read what the press has to say about Artemis Labs:

The SP-1 Power Amplifier made its debut at the 2005 Rocky Mountain Audiofest and will soon be available.

The SP-1 Power Amplifier at the 2005 Rocky Mountain Audiofest (tube cages removed).

Some highlights of this innovative design include:

  • Separate power supply chassis
  • Stereo signal chassis
  • Heavy use of chokes in the power supply (7 inductors in total)
  • Remote current sensing power supply
  • Uses "super" 300b's (e.g. TJ Full Music, etc.) for 13 watts power

Set your mind free of the normal conceptions of stereo vs. monoblock chassis. The power supply design in this amplifier may be the most sophisticated design extant - with priority being allocated to isolating the environment "vertically" (isolating each amplificaton stage) as opposed to horizontally (left/right - as in monoblock design).

Faced with keeping this design to two chassis, John knows all too well, the unique environment that each amplification stage requires in order to operate at its potential. The sonic dividends returned by this approach far outweigh those of a garden variety monoblock implementation.
