November 23, 2009:
Supervising the manufacture of sandboxes is currently in a state of flux. This is still a viable solution, but
remains either a project for the home constructor or requires that you find a cabinet maker to execute the design.
Check the thread on our forum (link is below) for updates on fabricators.
Our current recommendation is a simpler one, with its own unique set of benefits. For this, we recommend that
you investigate the Adona shelves
(opens in new window) - wood/MDF/granite composite shelves designed
to tame the ringy nature of granite while utilizing its rigidity to full advantage. They are the first viable
cost effective alternative we've found to sandboxes, apart from the ambitious (and very fine) efforts from the
likes of HRS and such which we also encourage you to investigate.
Note that the above link is to their main site, but as of this writing, we have verified that they continue to
supply 18" x 24" shelves as well.

Since the ideal solution involves using either a reinforced aluminum top plate, or alternatively, an Adona
shelf (in place of reinforced MDF or plywood), we advise that you ensure the inner dimensions of your sandbox
accommodate an Adona shelf - should you decide to incorporate this into your design in the future.
